Suns out, schools out, and a new class of smart high school students join our team. For six weeks, these young adults work with us on virtually every level of operations. Students are introduced to working with a wide range of people in a professional setting, giving them the skills to thrive in their future careers. Not to mention, they walk away with a greater understanding of the Palmer Events Center and the role it plays.
Our team looks forward to any and every opportunity to teach Austinites about the Palmer Events Center. College career fairs, job fairs, we are there to share the great opportunities available with us. High school students and local citizens can learn more about us through educational sessions we host with AustinCorps and CityWorks. These sessions give those in attendance a fuller view of what we do and how our work contributes to the city.
Giving comes second nature to our team. We have contributed to the City of Austin’s Combined Charities Campaign for the past 10 years. It is a program where our team funds organization with important causes annually. And when the school year nears, the team works together to gather as many backpacks as possible and fill them with supplies for the City of Austin’s Build A Backpack and School Supplies Drive. These donations go to Austin-area students needing help starting the school year on equal footing with their classmates in terms of resources.
Tutoring & Mentoring
Students cannot achieve to the fullest without help along the way. That is why our team is involved in the City of Austin’s Mentor and Tutor Volunteer Program. We meet with local students, assist with schoolwork and give them guidance through matters that come up in conversation. It is positive reinforcement keeping them on the right path.
Austin’s cultural events bring so much to the community. They unite people of all backgrounds for good times and fun. Without these staples of the community, Austin just would not be the same. To ensure these events stay around for a long, long time, we provide what we can in space or funding. We are proud sponsors of the Trail of Lights, Pecan Street Festival, Capital City Black Film Festival, and KLRU Radio, to name a few.
